Day 25 of Halloween: 'Hauntings' by Norah Lofts

Probably most notably remembered as the queen of gothic suspense, Norah Lofts has devised a collection of ghostly stories that will chill you to the bone. She notes that she has an 'obsession for old houses and ghost stories,' and she has eloquently combined them both (with a sharp twinge of suspense and mystery, the cornerstone of her gothics) into this lovely selection of 12 ghost stories.

Some of the stories read much like vintage gothic stories (minus the romance) with particular attention to old houses and haunted structures and the mysteries that people find themselves becoming intertwined with, unbeknowest to them before it's too late!).

A few of my favorites from this selection were A Visit to Claudia (for which one friend visits the old house of another, only to find myster and terror on her holiday) and The Waters (the story of a woman and her experience with the ghostly whisperings of a haunted house).

This book is full of some really great haunted house, gothic-like stories for much reading pleasure.

Definitely recommend this book to fans of gothic romance and haunted stories!
